About The Male Ledger

Who I am
My name is Marcus Hale. I'm 44, I live outside Denver, and for most of my adult life I ran projects for a mid-size construction firm, which mostly meant sitting in meetings and sitting in a truck.
At 41 I hit a wall. Not a dramatic one. I was just tired all the time, foggy by mid-afternoon, putting on weight around the middle even though nothing about my eating had changed, and my drive for the gym, for work, for my wife had quietly flattened out.
I finally got bloodwork done. My total testosterone came back at the low end of the normal range. My doctor's read was reasonable: "You're borderline. Let's fix your sleep and your training and check again in a year."
That year turned into two years of me testing things on myself and writing down what happened.
What this site is
The Male Ledger is a ledger in the literal sense: a running record of what I tried, what it cost, what the research actually says, and whether the needle moved. I test testosterone supplements, I read the studies behind their ingredients, and I write it up as plainly as I can.
I started it because when I was looking for this information, almost every "review" I found was a thin page written by someone who had clearly never opened the bottle, let alone checked their blood before and after.
How I test a product
- I buy it myself, at full price. No free samples, no "sponsored" bottles.
- I take it at the dose on the label for a full cycle, usually 30 to 90 days.
- Where possible, I get a blood panel before I start and after I finish.
- I keep a training log the whole time so I can see strength and energy trends, not just guess from memory.
- I read every ingredient's research, the studies that support it and the studies that don't, and I link to them so you can check my work.
- I write down the downsides. Every product has them.
What I am not
I am not a doctor. I have no medical or nutrition qualifications. Nothing on this site is medical advice. I can tell you what a study found and what happened to me; I cannot tell you what will happen to you or what you should do. That conversation belongs with your own doctor, ideally after a blood test. Please read the full medical disclaimer.
How the site makes money
The Male Ledger is free. It's funded by affiliate commissions: if you click a link to a product I've reviewed and you buy it, the retailer may pay me a percentage. It doesn't change your price and it doesn't change my verdict. I flag the weak points of products I earn from, and I recommend against products I could earn from. Full details on the affiliate disclosure page.
A note on the name and the face
"Marcus Hale" is the name I write under. There is a real person behind this site who stands behind everything on it; I use a pen name because this is a personal health story and I'd like to keep my family's name out of search results. The portrait shown alongside my byline is a stock photo used to represent this pen name. It is not a photograph of the actual person who writes this site.
